Charlotte Bobcats hire Mike Dunlap as next head coach

Who?

The Charlotte Bobcats have hired St. Johns assistant Mike Dunlap to be their next head coach, according to multiple outlets. Owner Michael Jordan and the Bobcats have been searching for a new head coach since parting ways with Paul Silas after the Bobcats posted the worst winning percentage in NBA history this past season (7-59, .106).

Dunlap has experience as an NBA assistant with the Denver Nuggets from 2006-2008 under George Karl. Dunlap has been an assistant coach at the Division I college level but has no head coaching experience above Divison II, where he was a two-time Div. II coach of the year.

NBA assistants Quinn Snyder and Brian Shaw were said to be top candidates but Jordan opened the interviews up again Monday before offering the position to Dunlap. The Bobcats have only had one winning season in ?2009-2010 under Larry Brown?in their eight years since joining the NBA in 2004-2005. Dunlap will be their sixth coach in nine years.
