A Writer Who Inspires with His Life As Well As His Words | Keith ...

I met him about twelve years ago at a pastor/spouse retreat. He was speaking. I was leading worship and doing some Biblical storytelling. Since it was a pastor/spouse retreat, both of us had our better halves with us.

Gary Thomas. Bestselling author. International speaker. I am extremely blessed and grateful that I have spent more than a decade calling him ?friend.?

Gary is passionate about the Bible. He recently agreed to write something just for you, the readers of this blog. It is based on his newest book The Sacred Search, written for singles who long, hope, and desire to one day be married.

I will be sharing that post this weekend. Stay tuned. I?ve read it and you will love it! (You?ll want to share it, too.)

Since this blog is all about the Bible ? and Gary unpacks and applies the Bible as well as anyone I know ? I thought I would share a few of my favorites. He?s written about 20 books. These are my top four:

authentic-faithAuthentic Faith is my favorite of Gary?s books. It might not have?sold as many copies as some others on this list, but it is outstanding. It challenged me to think about what it means to be a true disciple, gave me perspective on enduring challenges, and helped me think about the events God uses to shape us. Read it. You?ll be changed.

sacred-marriageSacred Marriage. This is Gary?s most famous book. In it, he asks the question ?What if God designed marriage to make us holy instead of happy?? It?s a bestseller for very good reason. If you?re married, read it. If you know someone who is married, give it to them.

sacred-pathwaysSacred Pathways. Another one of Gary?s bestsellers. If you want to improve your worship and walk with God ? in times of solitude and times of corporate worship ? this is the book for you. In Rick Warren?s Purpose Driven Life, he dedicates one of the forty days to the pathways in this book.

holy-availableHoly Available is in my top two books on the topic of holiness. (My other is The Pursuit of Holiness by Jerry Bridges.) Gary does an amazing job of tackling a topic that is hard to talk about without either skimming the surface, or descending into legalism. Profound and practical at the same time.

These are my favorites. If you?ve read Gary?s books before, what?s your favorite?

Don?t forget to keep an eye out this weekend for Gary?s article right here on the blog.
